In fact, the formats AI cites most often are well-structured articles and listicles: according to a 2026 Wix analysis, around 45% of informational queries are answered by citing articles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The good news is that writing to be cited by AI doesn’t clash with writing for people: both reward clarity. These are the eight keys I apply when writing content meant to be cited, with before-and-after examples.<\/p>\n

Put the answer before the context<\/h3>\n

AI preferentially extracts the first sentences when they answer the question completely. If you open with throat-clearing (“in today’s world\u2026”), you waste the most valuable space. Answer first; add context after.<\/p>\n

How to apply it:<\/b> open every article and section with a direct 40-60 word answer that stands on its own, like the “Quick answer” block at the top of this page.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
